How to get there
You can reach Flores by air, sea or via an adventurous island-hopping tour from Bali via Lombok and Sumbawa to Labuanbajo.
More and more airlines operate flights between Denpasar (Bali) and Labuanbajo, Ende and Maumere. Ruteng and Larantuka have connections to Bali via Kupang. Bajawa has no reliable air service.
Schedules, prices and timetables frequently change, so it is recommended to find the latest information at the time of booking your hotel/transport, or a few weeks before you plan to travel to and on Flores.
Flights between the islands of NTT are possible, with Maumere, Kupang, Ende and Waingapu being the most important and reliable destinations.
There are several possibilities to reach Flores by sea:
- Overland from Bali or Lombok via Sumbawa with public buses and ferries.
- Overland from Bali or Lombok via Sumbawa with organised tours in Bali or Lombok (AC buses overland and public ferries to island hop)
- Organised (group) boat trips from Bali – often 4 days/3nights - which have accommodation on board. The island of Komodo is visited on the way, and snorkelling or diving close to nearby islands can be arranged.
- There are various connections with Flores via the Pelni shipping line, with Maumere and Labuanbajo as the main ports.
All tours can be made vice versa. Organised tours can be arranged in Bali, Lombok and Labuanbajo. For the latest schedules on Pelni and public ferries, it is recommended to check anywhere between three weeks to 2 months beforehand.
